Pelvic Awakening
Pelvic Awakening Through Holistic Pelvic Care™
Soften. Strengthen. Awaken.
Holistic Pelvic Care™ (HPC) support is a gentle technique designed to release muscle and fascia layers in the pelvis in order to help the pelvic muscles better engage, restore pelvic organs to proper alignment, diminish pelvic floor pain and renew energy flow throughout your core. Developed by Tami Kent (a women's health physical therapist), HPC is a dynamic approach to a addressing a variety of common issues related to pelvic floor and tissue dysfunction.
What symptoms can HPC help to address?
There are a variety of symptoms that HPC can help with for women who have had or have not had children. From fertility work to recovery from birth events, many women have found HPC to be an important addition to their healing process. Symptoms/conditions that may benefit from HPC include:
Vaginal or pelvic pain
Leaking urine or frequent urge to urinate
Sensation of vaginal wall “falling out” at opening of vagina
Difficulty doing kegel squeeze or tightening pelvic floor muscles (weak muscles)
Vaginal dryness, vaginal gas or feeling vagina significantly open after birth
Diastasis recti
Diminished sex drive (low libido)
Pain with intercourse
Feeling a sensation of heaviness or congestion in the pelvis
Can I just do kegel exercises after the birth to resolve my problems?
In Tami Kent's book Mothering From Your Center she notes, “The majority of pelvic issues are the result of imbalances in the muscle recruitment pattern, diminished elasticity in the fascia or muscle fibers, inhibition of muscles, and poor organ position.” These issues are not the result of weak pelvic muscles and therefore you cannot “kegel” your way to a solution! HPC can help restore balance so that healing can begin.
What can I expect from an HPC session?
At Beginnings, we will spend time going over your personal history and goals for care. Each session will include an assessment of your pelvic floor muscles and fascia, which involves an internal vaginal exam. After the assessment, we will use internal trigger point movements (also termed myofascial release) and focused breath awareness with the goal of releasing tension, bringing blood flow to your core, realigning tissue, and restoring balance in your pelvic floor. We will also spend time discussing postures, movement and lifestyle changes that will enhance your progress toward long term health and healing. You will leave each session with a concrete plan to move toward your unique goals.
“Today’s session was great. I feel so different already - so much lighter.”
